Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori


This week we have been celebrating Te Reo Maori Language Week. We have been getting raffle tickets for speaking Maori in class and today we had a raffle draw.

Here is some of the te reo Maori I have been learning this term.

Kei te pehea koe?
How are you feeling?

Kei te             ahau.
I am feeling ______.

Feelings:
wera is hot
makariri is cold
pai is good
pai rawa is awesome
matekai \ hiakai is hungry
matewai \ hiainu is thirsty
hiamoe is sleepy
ngenge is tired
pouri is sad
pukuriri is angry
amaimai is nervous
hoha is fed up or bored
mataku is scared
whakama is embarrassed or shy
whakahihi is proud
koa is happy
mauiui is sick

and tino is very
so for very you can say I am tino wera, which is I am very hot.
